Silly little ficlet written for the picture prompt challenge at [ profile] house_memories

The fellows stopped dead as they entered the conference room. There, in the middle of the table, were three milkshakes, in three different flavours, each topped with a generous amount of whipped cream and a cherry.

They circled the table suspiciously but there was no sign of their boss. Instead there was a piece of paper which Foreman picked up.

"You'll know which is yours. H."

"Nothing about how we worked our arses off on the last case," Chase muttered as he snatched up the note and read it himself. "Including nearly getting killed by that damned dog."

Cameron smiled as she read the note over Chase's shoulder. "You know House. This is his way of saying thanks."

The two men looked at her in disbelief and she shrugged. "What? He's not as uncaring as you think."

Chase scoffed but picked up the chocolate milkshake. "Well, no prizes for guessing this is meant for you, Foreman."

"I suppose that makes you vanilla," Foreman said, taking the milkshake with a look of distaste.

"And strawberry would be for Cameron," Chase finished, handing the pink one to her and picking up his own. "Because she's the girl."

House shoved his cell phone triumphantly under Wilson's nose. It showed images of the fellows in the conference next door, transmitted from the tiny camera he'd planted there earlier.

"Pay up."

Wilson waved it away. "Do you really have nothing better to do than spy on your fellows? No, what do you call them? Patients?" He pulled a file towards him.

"Cured the last one. Not spying. Observing. I told you they'd drink them. Now pay up."

Wilson spared a glance at the phone. "They're not drinking. They're just standing there holding them. The bet was that they had to drink them."

"They will."

"And I'll pay when they do. Not before."

As the men watched all three of the fellows pagers went off. They quickly put the milkshakes down and ran out of the door.

"Oh no, no, no -  looks like there's some sort of medical emergency. Maybe you have a new patient." Wilson held out one hand while leafing through his file with the other. "Pay up."

House limped off towards the door, frustration written all over his body. "The day's not over. Don't leave town."

After he had gone Wilson put down his file and smiled to himself. It hadn't been easy, finding a patient who would keep the team occupied for the rest of the day, but it was worth it. He must remember to thank his contact in the ER for her help.

Maybe he'd buy her a milkshake.

Oh, nice!

I wonder if House's question was whether the fellows were trusting enough to drink.

Yes I think that was what he wanted to know :) I'm not sure I'd drink a randomly presented milkshake from House :)

Interesting that you and I picked the same prompt and did entirely different things with it. I like this a lot.

Wilson may protest but he really likes playing along with House, and getting the better of him :)
