Title: Stress Fracture
Words: 464
Rating : PG
Spoilers : For 7x23 Moving On
Characters : House, Wilson, Danny
Warnings : Angsty - not happy
Summary : Written for camp [livejournal.com profile] sick_wilson  Child's Play Challenge. It isn't the first time Wilson's wrist has been broken...

He's playing with Danny when it happens. Danny doesn't have a lot of friends so Jimmy often throws the ball around with him. Danny is younger and smaller, but he is quick on his feet and he always plays to win. Most of the time it's fun but sometimes Jimmy will see a certain look in his eye, a hard look, a cold look, and then he has to watch out.

Danny has thrown the ball long and Jimmy is bringing it back, ball tucked under one arm, eyes on Danny and aiming to get past him to score a touchdown. He feints one way, turns to go another and nearly slips past him but his foot catches in the muddy ground and twists and then he sees that look in Danny's eye.

He hits the ground hard, Danny's full weight is behind the hit. As he goes down his hand strikes the ground awkwardly and bends back, he hears something snap a second before he feels the sudden sharp pain.

When he comes back from the emergency room he has a bright blue cast on his right wrist. Mom and Dad make a fuss over him and he gets out of doing his chores for the six weeks it takes the bone to heal. Danny apologises of course, and Jimmy knows it really had been an accident so he says it is okay, but he always keeps an eye out for that look in Danny's eye.

     *******************************************************************************************

He gets out of the car, confused and uncertain. He doesn't want to get out, but he remembers the way House had smashed the glass in his office poster, and the anger and frustration that had been written in every line of his tense stance. House is about to boil over and Wilson isn't sure he wants to be in the way.

He watches as the car roars off down the street, then turns at the head of the road and starts back. He's not sure what House is doing, the car is veering off the road and headed straight for him. At the last moment he realises that House is not going to stop and he dives to one side, out of the way. His hand strikes the ground awkwardly and his weak right wrist gives way. The snap of the bone is an echo from the past.

As he cradles his wrist, he stares at the wreckage in front of him, at the devastation House has made of both their lives. House emerges, unscathed, and unrepentant and walks over to him. As Wilson stares into those cold blue eyes he sees Danny looking back at him.

When House walks away, Wilson knows his brother is lost.

Nice parallel! I appreciated the callback to that moment in Wilson's office, too.

That was definitely a scary House moment, sort of a precursor to what was to come - it does make you wonder if there is some other factor at work...thanks for reading!

Ooooo, painful in a multitude of ways.

I loved the ending and this line in particular:

he stares at the wreckage in front of him, at the devastation House has made of both their lives

Brilliant!

Are you finding that writing is helping you deal with the finale?

Oh yes, absolutely, I've been having fun with the chain_fic and sick wilson camp and I think I'm over the stupid thing now. I'll probably get all annoyed again when next season starts and they don't deal with it properly but hopefully they have been reading the reaction on the 'net and realise that its a bigger deal than they thought to ram a car into your ex-girlfriend's place...

Thanks for reading and commenting :)

I loved the idea of House being a Danny - replacement.

And I think that the absurd scene with House sweeping Wilson's desk was indeed meant as "Look, House's getting violent and crazy!" although how TPTB can find a common measure between a smashed glass (cost how much? five dollars?) and a murder attempt is beyond me.

Not even your incredibly good writing can make sense of the finale for me, but thanks so much for trying, and I'm glad to know you've finally digested it (I've gone the avoidance way).

But why is House getting violent and crazy? Thats the question - I suppose we're meant to think he's heartbroken over the loss of Cuddy...in which case they shouldn't have had those few episodes where he seemed to be coping quite well..

When I was writing this I had the idea in my head that Wilson had said to House something like 'I want you to meet Danny, he's a lot like you' but it turns out he just said he wanted House to meet him.

I thought it was again the Vicodin. But it still doesn't make sense, whichever way I look at it. Especially Wilson allowing him to drive. It's just a load of BS.

Beautiful parallel stories! The last line killed me the most. To go off of barefootpuddles, these fics help us readers to deal with the finale, too. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it, the one thing about the finale - it gave us plenty of fodder for fics :)

Yes, I totally agree with fly_woman. I was glad you mentioned the office scene too. I doubt the writers are thinking this way but for my part I elieve the experimental drugs he injected are making him violent or altering his mood.

I love the way you connected Danny and House in this.

It would be good if there was some rational explanation for House's behaviour but I'm not holding out hope. Thanks for reading!

Ohhh haunting! Clever using Danny here as I think S8's Wilson is going to be feeling pretty abandoned by (and possibly afraid of) House.

It would be nice if we could meet Danny some day...will be interesting to see whether the writers do anything with the Wilson/House aspect of the finale - probably not. thanks for reading!

I imagine that they'll happily forget about it, just as they did when House jumped into the pool. Wilson's long overdue a breakdown and hopefully, with 'Huddy' well and truly out of the way, they can address the issues between him and House next season. Don't get me wrong, Cuddy's absolutely one of my favourite characters, but...

And as for Danny, omg yes! They've teased the storyline twice now, and seemingly dropped it. It's highly unlikely that Wilson would be so loyal to House (esp. after the finale) if getting his brother back in his life means so little to him. As far as us viewers are aware anyway. Are we still supposed to assume that he visits him? Or if House accompanies him for that matter? This is what happens when Chase cuts his hair and Taub chases nurses: interesting storylines get pushed to one side.

With you there - the amount of time that has been devoted to Taub's (totally uninteresting) sexual exploits this season has been staggering, and no end in sight looks like...I just hope we don't get too much of the taub baby storyline next year (:

Yeah, 'tis a shame, really. I used to love Taub.

*ouchie* But yes, lovely parallel between Wilson's past and his present. And even though his arm will heal, he'll probably never recover from seeing that look in House's eyes. Also loved your description of House as unscathed and unrepentant. Because he kinda was, wasn't he?

Yes, House seemed pretty pleased with what he did, both at the scene and at the beach (: I think it was supposed to be cathartic, which is all well and good but not at the expense of other people...Thanks for reading :)

Very nice. You've drawn a great comparison between the two instances.

This line is my FAVORITE!!:

House was pretty scary at the end of that episode, and in the scene in wilson's office a couple of episodes prior....Thanks for reading and commenting :)

Oh I know, I was having phantom pain for Wilson's things!

I don't think there are too many people who liked the end of that episode - glad you enjoyed the story. Thanks for reading!
