"House hasn't yet found the breaking point for their friendship and he's beginning to think he never will - unless it's death." This is such an excellent point you made!! Throughout the course of the show, it's always been about House testing their friendship and they've always bounced back, eventually. With this in mind, the "win or lose" just becomes that more poignant (and hopeful).
