Title:Visiting Day
Author: [livejournal.com profile] menolly_au
Characters: House & Wilson
Rating: PG
Warnings:Angst
Words: Two drabbles of 100 words each
Summary: Will Wilson visit House in prison?

Notes - Written for the Seven day House challenge Day 3 : Angsty drabble. Except, it's two drabbles, but they are angsty :)

He gets as far as the prison gates, his steps slow and hesitant. Stares at the walls that shut out the world, imagining the chaos within, the desperation, the loneliness, and the fear. He thinks of him in there, wonders whether he's eating, whether he's getting enough pain medication, whether he's pissing his fellow prisoners off. He wonders if he's safe. He rubs his wrist, remembering the sharp snap, the flash of pain and then the deep hurt as House left him. If House doesn't care he shouldn't either. He turns and walks away.

                                                      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He's filled out the form that will allow visitors. Wilson's name was top of the list, he even added all his fellows. Cuddy's name went in faint letters at the bottom, a distant hope - or fear. Every visiting day he watches and waits, pretending that he doesn't care, that it doesn't matter. He's condemned himself to this, he's hurt everyone he ever cared about, they've moved on, left him behind. He dares to hope that Wilson is the exception, the lone believer, but Wilson never comes. Disappointed again, he turns away.
I like the description of Wilson as the lone believer.
The fact that they both turn away at the end adds to the separation and isolation which I think you've captured so perfectly. Really great!
I think it's very realistic that Wilson would need a physical reminder of how much House has hurt him in the past to keep him away now. Hauntingly beautiful. You've conveyed so much in so little words!
Thanks! I think Wilson would have been very torn between wanting to go to House and also knowing that House hurt him, and he really shouldn't go to him.
Two wonderful scenes that work perfectly with canon. The first one is evocative of "Both Sides Now" with Wilson standing outside of Mayfield. Great job.
Thanks, glad you liked them :) I think there are a lot of similarities between the Mayfield and the Prison stories, both times House went somewhere where Wilson couldn't follow (:
Both drabbles end with someone turning away. Thank goodness we know they ultimately reunite or this might be too sad for me to read. I can easily see both drabbles fitting into that missing year.
Thanks for reading :) That missing year is beginning to nag at me more and more....
Me too. You know, if a talented writer (like, say, you) wanted to, something could be done about that. ;)
Or, say, you :) I don't know, I've had little nibbles at it here and there, and I'll probably nibble away at it again one day :) I was thinking there might be some back story later in the season but I'm beginning to think we've moved on and that's that (:
These were really wonderful - very realistic, very IC, very canonical (if that's a word given the context). So bleak - as yarroway says, thank goodness they ultimately reunite.
Thanks! Yes, i can't imagine what House would do without Wilson, I'm glad Wilson found it in his heart to forgive him.
Perfect fit with canon, should carry a warning for heartbreak/wordcount ratio. As I didn't find words enough to comment, I'll borrow some from Oscar Wilde: It seems to me intolerable that fictional characters should be so unhappy and meet with such terrible misfortunes.
Better that fictional characters should be unhappy than real people:) Thanks!
Wonderful drabbles that would have fit perfectly into canon. Very poignant descriptions - it's so impressive what people can fit into such few words! Well done :)
