Post Mortem - End Scene Rewrite
Jun. 28th, 2012 10:58 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Characters: House & Wilson
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Up to and including Post Mortem
Summary: I didn't like the end of Post Mortem so I rewrote it :) Done for the Script writing challenge at camp Sick!Wilson.
I took the script format from the Ocam's Razor script
FADE IN :
INT : CT Control Booth. House is in the booth looking at the monitors. Through the window Wilson can be seen, dressed in a rather nifty hospital gown, lying on the table, getting scanned. House is staring at the screen.
WILSON (V.O)
Chase is leaving ?
HOUSE
He wants to. Baby bird is ready to leave the nest, again.
HOUSE (CONT"D)
(Wiping away a fake tear)
It's so sad when they grow up.
WILSON
You're letting him go?
HOUSE
(Still staring at the monitors)
I told him he could have my job.
WILSON
(shocked)
Your job? You're leaving?
HOUSE
(still staring at the monitor)
Six month leave of absence. Starting in a couple of weeks when my parole is up.
WILSON
You don't even take sick days. And the last time you had a vacation you spent it hiding out in your apartment.
HOUSE
(Leans forward to stare more intently at the monitor)
(distracted)
Times change.
House stares at the screen, fiddles with a few buttons and looks again. Slowly a very genuine smile spreads across his face.
WILSON
(worried)
House? Can you see it, has it shrunk?
Wilson turns his head towards House, he's scared and looking to House for reassurance. House leaves the booth and comes to stand beside the table next to Wilson. His smile is gone and he looks very, very serious. Wilson sits up on the edge of the table.
WILSON
(resigned)
It's grown. I'm going to die.
HOUSE
Everybody dies. (Beat) In your case in probably about forty years, give or take a decade for boring behaviour.
House gives up the pretense and smiles at Wilson. Wilson looks stunned and uncertain.
WILSON
(disbelieving)
It's shrunk?
HOUSE
Congratulations. You are now the proud possessor of a very small Thymoma. Your completely insane treatment worked. They'll crack open your chest and take it out, sew you up, nuke you for a while and you'll be fine.
WILSON
(dryly)
You make it sound so attractive.
HOUSE
Luckily Chase is still around, he can do it.
WILSON
Ah, your master plan is revealed!
Both men are smiling at each other now, the tension of the last couple of weeks released. Wilson gets up off the table, still looking striking in his gown. He goes behind a curtain to get dressed, his voice can be heard offscreen.
WILSON (V.O)
This leave of absence you're taking. Have any plans for it?
HOUSE
(unusually serious)
You're going to need some help for a while. It's major surgery, and then there's the radiation afterwards.
Wilson emerges from behind the curtain, dressed in a casual pair of pants and a t-shirt.
HOUSE (CONT'D)
It won't be like that fun weekend we spent in chemo-land but it's not going to be all beer and dancing girls either. Although I do have their number.
WILSON
But... six months? I won't be sick for that long.
HOUSE
I thought when you were better we'd blow this joint for a while, hunt down Kyle and get your revenge. Or, do your bucket list, but without the bucket, more fun that way.
Wilson stares at him and then breaks into a delighted grin.
WILSON
(getting excited)
A road trip? I could rent another corvette, we could...
HOUSE
(Interrupting)
No, no more corvettes.(beat) Bikes are way cooler.
Wilson looks startled, starts to protest and then nods firmly.
WILSON
Bikes it is. I look good in leather.
They turn to go, falling into step as they walk towards the door. At the door Wilson pauses and turns towards House.
WILSON
You thought the chemo hadn't worked, that I was going to die. That's why you requested the leave of absence.
HOUSE
You almost did die.
WILSON
I thought almost dying changes nothing? That's what you've always said.
House looks at him, taking in a living breathing, soon-to-be-healthy Wilson.
HOUSE
I was wrong.
House opens the door for Wilson and they leave together.

Date: 2012-06-28 06:29 pm (UTC)I understand RSL is a great actor, but I doubt he could avoid that even if he tried ;)
He goes behind a curtain to get dressed
:(
No, of course they couldn't do otherwise. But a tiny peek? Just from the waist up?
I was wrong.
(cries desperately, lost in happiness)
This was so good. It had everything we all liked in the finale: House leaving PPTH with the option of returning, the two of them riding bikes into the sunset, leather-clad Wilson, plus tons of implied TLC. I'll have to mem this, since the list of fics which are way better than canon about the final arc has long since exceeded my (modest) memory.

Date: 2012-06-28 10:46 pm (UTC)Thank you - glad it appealed to you, I do really wish that Wilson hadn't ended the series with a death sentence hanging over him :(

Date: 2012-06-28 07:15 pm (UTC)Thank you for this. I especially loved the walking side by side, like they did in "Everybody Lies." This would have really been "uplifting."
And I second dami's glimpse of RSL...Time to pull out "Dead Poets Society" for the bathroom scene or "Much Ado About Something" for the washing scene. *sigh*

Date: 2012-06-28 10:03 pm (UTC)I liked everything, but I chuckled at your added commentary like " Wilson gets up off the table, still looking striking in his gown. :P

Date: 2012-06-28 10:36 pm (UTC)Wilson lives, House doesn't fake-die AND we still get them in leather on motorcycles, taking off together. You pulled off the trifecta!
And yes, Wilson, you do look good leather ... Who knew?
