"It's been more than ten days."

At Wilson's words House looked up from where he was busy carving his name with a pocket knife into the wooden surface of the picnic table. It was a warm summer's day and they'd pulled up at a park - to have something to eat, and so that House could stretch his leg. Wilson was sitting next to him on the bench, staring out across the grass. House followed his gaze and saw he was looking at a young child playing with a dog. Knowing Wilson he was doing some sort of mental stocktake of his life, and finding it coming up short. As if beating terminal cancer wasn't enough of an achievement he probably wanted to add another wife and maybe some kids to the tally. House ignored the bleakness that had started to creep over him and concentrated on Wilson's statement.

"Ten days since what? The last time Little Jimmy stood to attention? Don't worry; I hear it happens to many men your age. There are little blue pills you can take for that."

"You gave me ten days to get back into dating, after Sam left. It's been more than ten days." Wilson still wasn't looking at him.

When House had given him that deadline he'd been with Cuddy, and Wilson had been with a cat. He'd wanted Wilson to start to date women again (or, more accurately, to have sex with them). But that had been a Vicodin relapse, a felony and a prison sentence ago. That had been before cancer, that had been before he'd died to be with Wilson. That had been before Wilson asked him to tell him that he loved him.

"You never said what you were going to do, when the ten days were up." Wilson turned towards him, his face inches away. There was laughter in his eyes, and he was smiling; a silly, crooked, smile that lit up House's heart. "You never said how you were going to fix the problem."

"Maybe you would have done this," Wilson said and gently pressed his lips to House's and moved in so that was one hand was resting on House's shoulder. This was nothing like how Wilson had ever touched him before and House leaned into it, returning his kiss with interest.

A couple of minutes later they broke apart, eyes locked on each other.

"How long?" House said hoarsely. "How long have you wanted to do that?"

"Much longer than ten days."

"Yeah, me too."

"How about we stay here for the night, and talk about this?" Wilson suggested. "I've had enough travelling for the day."

"Okay with me. There's a hotel right across the park that looks good." It looked like a dump actually but it was close. Very close."We don't really have to talk about it, do we?"

"We might be able to find something better to do," Wilson conceded, still smiling that little smile. He got up to go and then turned back. "Oh, those little blue pills you mentioned? Not going to need them."

As it happened House wasn't going to need them either.
