Chase

Robbie waits for his father to come home. He received a perfect score on his science exam today and he wants to show him. Whatever he does it never seems enough to please his father. When his father finally comes in he goes straight to the kitchen. Robbie's mum is there, she's been drinking, soon they start yelling at each other, and then there's the sounds of glass breaking, then his father comes slamming outside, gets into his car and drives off.

Robbie crumples the exam results in his hand, they're not important, they can wait.

Remy sits in the school library, with an old medical book in front of her. She turns to the section on genetics. There's a blurb on Huntington's Disease, her gaze flicks to the summary - "the probability of each offspring inheriting an affected gene is 50%". Fifty/fifty, the flip of a coin. She has a brother, one of them gets it, one doesn't - maybe. She slams the book shut - she doesn't want to know. She's not going to get sick, she's not, she isn't going to become like her Mom.

Foreman

He opens his textbooks, spreads them out over his bed. Final exams are soon, he needs to ace them, he has to get a scholarship and get into a good school. He's going to be a doctor, he's going to get out of this place. Marcus is in trouble with the cops again, the only place he's going is another stint in Juvie. Well, Eric isn't like Marcus, he's going to make something of his life. He bends his head over his books, ignoring the sounds of his friends playing basketball out in the street.

Taub

If there's one thing Chris has no problem with, it's the ladies. His school friends tease him for being short and Jewish. But they go silent when he walks by with yet another girl on his arm. Chris like all the girls, but when he's with one he can't help feeling he'd be having more fun with a different one. He was with Julie last night, but tonight he's going to a movie with Carla. He gets dressed, but doesn't look in the mirror - he doesn't like what he sees there.

Cuddy

She has a large collection of Barbies. Her sister likes to dress hers up as princesses and have the handsome Ken come and rescue them, carrying them away in her arms. Lisa doesn't do that. Her Barbies are doctors and nurses, she bosses them around the pretend hospital. She doesn't want to be a princess. She's going to be a doctor, a good one, she's going to be in charge of the other doctors so she can do whatever she wants. If she can be successful in her job maybe her Mom will start loving her.

Wilson

Jimmy stares around the kitchen in dismay. It's a bombsite - there's food all over the counters and the floors, a stack of dirty dishes and bowls.

Danny had asked if he could make a cake if he cleaned up afterwards, but Danny has gone out and left this mess behind. Mom and Dad are coming back in an hour. Jimmy would have to clean it up or they'd be very disappointed. They'd told Jimmy that he had to be responsible for his brother.

It isn't fair but Jimmy starts cleaning up after his brother.

House

Greg stares at his Mom while she explains she's going away for a while. She is going to visit Oma who is sick. Greg can't come, she doesn't say why but Greg knows that Oma doesn't like him, last time he visited Oma he'd broken something and Oma had been upset. She'd yelled at him. Mom says that Greg will have fun with Dad, that Dad wants to spend more time with him.

Later, after Mom is gone, Greg sits shivering in the icy bath. He realises for the first time - everybody lies.
