Just woke up to the news that Leonard Nimoy has died. I can't even think what to say. Star Trek and particularly Spock were my first fandom and a big part of my life when I was a late teenager right through until the early 2000s. The first thing I did on my first foray into the internet was type 'Star Trek' into yahoo. (And got a bazillion results which I had no idea what to do with :) My first internet posted story was Kirk/Spock. I moved on from the fandom eventually but never moved on from my love of Spock.

It seems crazy to say about a fictional character but Spock will always hold a special place in my heart and Leonard Nimoy will always be Spock for me. I'm so sad that he's gone - it's the passing of an era.

RIP Leonard Nimoy, you will be missed :(

I don't think it sounds crazy at all. Spock was a really fascinating character, and Leonard Nimoy made him who he was.

I was huge into Star Trek through my teens and early twenties, I wrote lots of Star Trek fic and also went to Star Trek conventions and bought fanzines of other people's fanfiction before the internet existed, and the original series will always be my favorite. It's been very sad for me to see the actors dying one by one, but I think that this one hit me hardest.

Yeah, I've got a ton of zines stashed around this house in various places :) Only ever managed one convention though. The original series will always be very special to me for lots of reasons.

I knew this day would come but damn...

Start Trek was so many people's first fandom, even people who still don't realize it was their first fandom.

You are not alone in being saddened by this. :(

Star Trek is just so well known - even if you weren't into it you still know about it. It's sad to see the stars going one by one.

It's not crazy at all. I feel the same way. It's absolutely the passing of an era.

The first time I ever saw Star Trek I was at an older kid's house and it was playing on the TV. I was scared of Spock because of his ears--I thought he was the devil. In my defense 1) I was very young, and 2) I had been terrified by movie about Santa Claus fighting the devil not long before. When I was a little older I watched more than 10 seconds of the show and realized that Spock wasn't evil, just different--something I (like every kid) could relate to.

Star Trek wasn't my first fandom, I don't think, nor was it my first slash fandom...but the show and Mr. Spock are and always shall be one of my favorites.

I think from memory I got into watching Star Trek because I read the novelisation of The Motion Picture of all things! I probably wore out the pages where Spock was lying on the hospital bed and Kirk was holding his hand :)

House is close but Spock will always be my number one guy :)
